How to play rock 'n' roll

Here’s one piece of net ephemera that’s worth watching all the way through: A middle-aged Asian techie demoing an electronic keyboard and adding a strangely earnest explanation of how to play rock ‘n’ roll: “Rock ‘n’ roll is very simple, just four counts, and on every count, play the high hat …” Typical, cringe-worthy online kitsch, with a hint of that William-Hung clueless-Asian-man vibe—except at about 1:15, when the guy deviates from the for-beginners rhythm and starts busting out with some maniacal index-finger-drum-solo, bobbing his head like a 12-year-old music prodigy with A.D.D. Me, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anybody get so enthusiastic while wearing a blue collared work shirt, and I start thinking that he should just buy some real drums. I mean, at the least he’d probably be good enough to tour with R.E.M.
