Scene from a Maryland gas station

Somewhere in Maryland, on the way back from RubyConf 2004, we stopped at a Crown gas station where I bought a candy bar and a bottle of water. When I was getting my change, I glanced up to the security monitor and saw myself standing at the counter with the lines from the cash register—"20 oz. water $1.19"—superimposed over my face. I'd never seen that before. I suppose this is mostly for preventing an employee from working with a friend to scam cash out of the till. As a side effect, they just happen to have a visual record of every customer's face and the things they bought on the way to New York or Baltimore …
